NY StateFair 2011 - Pull-A-Palooza results

September 6, 2011

The results for the first ever IWPA sanctioned dog weight pull, held at the 2011 NY State Fair are now in. Organized and sponsored by Canine Culture of Oneida along with Dog Daze Pet Shop in North Syracuse and Sewing by Darlene, this event was a rousing success. Over 40 dogs competed (and a few ended up missing the event due to vehicle breakdowns on the way). Many spectators lined the bleachers of the Youth Arena and cheered on the dogs. Having the event on the great dirt footing the in the Youth Arena was an excellent idea. Spectators and exhibitors alike appreciated the cover from the rain as well.

In the 20 lb and under category, Golly, a Silky Terrier, pulled 200 lbs for first place. This was her first real competition as well.

The 40 lb and under division was won by Happy, a smiling American Pit Bull Terrier, who moved 275 lbs between cart and cement blocks.

A Belgian Malinois named Gadda took the honors for the 60 lb and under crowd, pulling a nifty 1625 lbs!

The 80 lb and under division held the big winner of the Day. Milo, an Alaskan Malamute, pulled 2,225 lbs to win his weight category. Milo's big pull also held up for Most Total Weight Pulled and Highest Percentage of Body Weight Pulled, so Milo took home the two big trophies! A nice day's work for Milo.

Malamutes dominated the upper weight classes as well. In the 100 lb and under class, Alaskan Malamute, Ranger, won with a pull of 2025. Cinnabar, also an Alaskan Malamute, took the 125 lb and under class with a pull of 1275 lbs. The 150 lb and under class was won by Sebastian, also an Alaskan Malamute, with a pull of 1875 lbs. Last, but not least, in the unlimited weight class, Alaskan Malamute, Nikko, pulled 975 lbs for first place.

This event should be a welcome addition to State Fair entertainment in the years to come - a fun, free family event!
