On its website, the New York State Gaming Commission has posted horse trainer suspensions involving the use of certain drugs and possession of hypodermic needles or controlled substances.
Beginning a suspension on March 11 through 25 is Nick Zito (Famous racehorse trainer Nick Zito serving 15-day suspension)
Effective March 1, trainer Luis Alvarez begins a 60-day suspension for violating the rule prohibiting possession of a hypodermic needle or controlled substances. According to the website post explanation, this violation was discovered after a search of Alvarez’s barn that took place mid-February, 2013.
Alvarez is not appealing the suspension.
Also, enmeshed in the illegal use of clenbuterol is trainer Wesley Ward. He faces a 30-day suspension for a clenbuterol positive test taken on Sunset Time after he finished third in the second race at Belmont in summer of 2012.
Ward is appealing the positive results.
When clenbuterol is administered regularly and often, a horse usually builds muscle mass. Therapeutic use of clenbuterol is for respiratory ailments.
