NY State Bishops to meet with Cuomo

Catholic Bishops from across New York State are scheduled for a meeting with Governor Cuomo this Tuesday, March 19th.

The primary purpose of the meeting is to try to dissuade the Governor from continuing to push for the liberalization of already liberal abortion laws. In a recent address, Cuomo announced his "Women's Equality Act" which includes a Reproductive Health Act that would expand abortion provisions.

Cardinal Dolan of NYC will be unable to attend the meeting as he will still be in Rome for the installation Mass of Pope Francis on the same day.

New York State already has double the national per capita abortion rate. In NYC, an astounding 41% of pregnancies end in abortion.

Cuomo’s Women’s Equality Act has drawn national attention for its tenth point, the Reproductive Health Act, bill S438, which if passed is likely to increase late term abortions, while permitting non medical doctors to perform them and decriminalizing coerced abortions.

Pro life organizations across the state have joined together to educate citizens about the ramifications of the proposed bill and to speak out against it. New Yorkers for Life can be found at http://www.NYS4life.org.
