Fresh off a down south tour with legendary rock band The Zombies, roots-rock band Hollis Brown is back in New York this week. The group will be performing tracks from their latest studio album, "Hollis Brown Gets Loaded" (Alive Naturalsound Records), at Rough Trade NYC (64 N. 9th St., Brooklyn) at 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 15.
The album, a tribute to The Velvet Underground's 1970 classic, "Loaded," was released in an exclusive vinyl format on Record Store Day, April 19.
On "Hollis Brown Gets Loaded," Hollis Brown plays the original "Loaded" album back to front, adding their own earthy sound to the contemplative anthems. From the cocky strut of classics such as “Sweet Jane” and “Rock & Roll,” to the lovely balladry of “New Age” and the pile-driving rock of “Head Held High,” Hollis Brown pays an exceptional tribute to this time-honored album and the late, great Lou Reed.
Tickets are $12 on www.RoughTradeNYC.com, and doors open at 8 p.m. This is a 21+ show.
Following dates in Harrisburg, PA, Warwick, NY, and Philadelphia, PA, Hollis Brown will embark on a European tour. The group will perform in London, Paris, Zurich, Berlin and many other cities through the end of June, before heading back to the states for a July 11 performance in Greensboro, PA.
