NWSL: Washington needs road win

Washington opens week 10 of NWSL action at Harvard June 11 with a match against the Boston Breakers. The Spirit enter the game tied with Chicago for third in the league with 19 points. Chicago (6-4-1) faces Sky Blue FC (2-6-4) Sunday.

The Spirit are unbeaten in their last five matches including three straight wins. Washington beat the Breakers 3-2, in Boston, June 1.

Jodi Taylor leads the Spirit (6-4-1) with six goals. The Spirit’s three-game winning streak began with a 3-2 victory over the Houston Dash and they have scored 21 and conceded 20 in their first 11 games.

Chantel Jones to make her first appearance this season as the Spirit goalie. Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger will miss the contest with national team duties. Likewise the Breakers will miss Heather O’Reilly and Kristie Mewis.

Boston (2-8-0) is last in the league. Lianne Sanderson leads the team with four goals, including a pair against Washington June 1. Jazmine Reeves is next with three scores in only five games.

In W-League action, the Braddock Road Stars Elite (0-2) are in Long Island June 11 seeking their first win. The Rough Riders (1-2-1) are looking for their first home victory.
