The wait is over for fans of women's soccer as the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has unveiled the complete 2014 regular-season schedule. The season kicks off on Saturday, April 12, 2014 with eight of the nine clubs in action.
The opening weekend begins on that Saturday with the defending champion Portland Thorns FC traveling to Texas to take on the new kids in town, Houston Dash. The other Saturday match has FC Kansas City hosting Sky Blue FC on KC's new home field, Verizon Wireless Field at Durwood Stadium.
The action continues on Sunday, April 13 when Crystal Dunn and the Washington Spirit host Abby Wambach and the Western New York Flash. Also, the Boston Breakers travel to Memorial Stadium to face Seattle Reign FC.
With the induction of the Dash, the NWSL has expanded their schedule to 24 games per team, with every team playing each other three times in the regular season. The 19-week season consists of teams playing an equal amount of 12 matches at home and 12 away.
The regular season will conclude the weekend of August 16-17, 2014. Leading up to the regular season finale, every team will host at least one game in August and no team will travel outside of its own time zone during the season’s final week. You know what that means, right? Portland hosts Seattle on the last day of the season!
Just like last season, the top four teams will qualify for the NWSL playoffs. Semifinals will take place on August 23-24 and the Championship Finals will be held on the following weekend of August 30-31, 2014.
Washington Spirit will take on the Houston Dash, three times during the season. Once at home, on May 26 at 4 pm ET. The other two matches will be away at BBVA Compass Stadium on June 28 and July 17 at 9 pm ET.
Boston Breakers see the return of last year's leading scorer, Sydney Leroux on Thursday, June 19 as Seattle Reign FC make their only appearance in Boston during the regular season.
FC Kansas City are currently offering season tickets under $150 until February 14, 2014, with single-game and group tickets going on sale February 28, 2014 at 10 am CT. Fans can reserve their tickets by calling 855.4KC.GOAL (855.452.4625) or visiting FCKansasCity.com.
The Dash will finish up their inaugural season on August 17 against the Boston Breakers at Harvard Stadium.
Reign FC will begin preseason play on March 29 as the team travels to face the University of Portland. Seven members of Reign's preseason roster will return to Merlo Field at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex where they played their college careers.
