The first National Women's Soccer League semifinal playoff series is one and done! Here's a quick recap of the action...
Portland Thorns 3, FC Kansas City 2
This was a heartbreaking loss for The Blues who led early but couldn't stop the physical play of Thorns FC. Playing without an injured Alex Morgan, Portland came from a 0-2 deficit to win it all in overtime.
Here's how they scored:
'12: Erika Tamrak (Kansas City); Assisted by Leigh-Ann Robinson
'25: Melissa Henderson (Kansas City); Assisted by Merritt Mathias
'33: Tobin Heath (Portland); Assisted by Angie Kerr. Note: Heath was carried out after suffering a foot injury.
'65: Tiffany Weimer (Portland); Assisted by Nikki Marshall. Note: Weimer scores after being subbed in for Danielle Foxhoven
'103: Allie Long (Portland); Assisted by Tiffany Weimer
Western New York Flash 2, Sky Blue FC 0
Western New York took control and never relinquished it. WNY's Carli Lloyd scored early and late in this match, but the win was a definite team effort. After Lloyd's first strike, The Flash did what all good teams do–they managed the game with patience, poise and (you guessed it)… great defense.
'33: Carli Lloyd (WNY); Assisted by Katherine Reynolds
'93: Carli Lloyd (WNY)
