Weather forecasters are warning drivers of wet roads late New Year’s Eve night in the east-central Florida area. The National Weather Service in Melbourne says short, light rain showers could happen after midnight, and drivers should “…drive with extra caution because of the light rain on the road and the increased stopping distances on the wet roads.”
Rain expected New Year’s Day
For the Daytona Beach area, there’s a 20 percent chance of rain New Year’s Eve night, increasing to a 70 percent chance of rain New Year’s Day. Lows New Year’s Eve will be around 57 with north winds around 5 miles per hour, becoming calm. The high New Year’s Day will be around 69 with east-northeast winds at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
Daytona Beach reported 60 degrees and cloudy skies around 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve, it was 57 and clear in Ormond Beach, Deland reported 57 degrees and fair skies, it was 61 and mostly cloudy at New Smyrna Beach, and it was 62 and mostly cloudy at the Kennedy Space Center, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
