Nutri-Vet and Nutri-Pet Chicken Jerky recalled due to possible salmonella risk.

Pet owners who have Nutri-Pet Chicken Jerky treats in their homes should be aware of this recent recall by Nutri-Vet due to the possibility of salmonella content. The products are sold by Nutri-Vet of Boise, Idaho.

When Nutri-Vet became aware of possible salmonella contamination, notice was given that the products would be recalled. Consumers should stop using this product and return it for a refund.

Those who have this Nutri-Pet Chicken Jerky product in their possession are encouraged to read the original report to learn if their product is on the list of those recalled. The site lists sizes and UPC codes for all for all Nutri-Pet products that are part of this recall.

The following important details about salmonella were included in the FDA report:

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these symptoms after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has any of these signs, please contact your veterinarian.

Nutri-Vet learned of the salmonella from a supplier of one of the ingredients used in the pet products. However, there has been no conclusion that salmonella is in Nutri-Vet or Nutri-Pet foods. Consumers with more questions may call (877)-729-8668 to speak with a representative.
