Nutcracker Tea at Rosen Shingle Creek, part one: Sandwiches and dessert

See also

The Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in the International Drive area have a wide range of holiday activities, including entertainment seminars, dance performances, a Winter Wonderland Festival, and a European Winter Fair. One of the most quaint is the Annual Nutcracker Tea, which combines a live performance of select scenes from the famous ballet with delicious high tea goodies.

What exactly do those goodies entail? Check out the slideshow accompanying this article for a quick sampling. The tea is family-friendly, so there's plenty to please the youngsters' palates, and parents will be very pleased too. There's a selection of finger sandwiches with fillings like ham, turkey, egg salad, and cucumber with cream cheese (and don't forget the sweet strawberry sandwiches).

Try as many varieties as you wish, but don't fill up! As tasty as the sandwiches might be, they pale in comparison to the desserts. My favorite was the gingerbread men with their zesty, spicy taste, but there were assorted pastries and other colorful Christmas cookies, too.

And what would a high tea be without scones? They were there aplenty, with raspberry jam and Devonshire cream on the side. I'm a huge scone fan, and they go so well with tea.

Speaking of the tea, there were many different kinds from which to choose. I opted for Ginger Peach, then switch to Camomile later. If you're not a tea drinker, fear not. There's also coffee, bottled water, soda, lemonade, and iced tea.

It was so cute to see the children all dressed up in their best, enjoying their high tea goodies with their best manners. Santa Claus was there, so of course they were on their best behavior.

While the tea and treats are a big attraction at this event, there's also entertainment that puts a Christmas spin in things. Jump to part two of this article to read about the Nutcracker performance and photo opportunities.

While the Nutcracker Tea is over for 2013, you can enjoy ballet and other dance performances in the Rosen Shingle Creek Lobby on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. through December 20. There's also a full slate of Christmas events to come at Rosen Shingle Creek and the other Rosen hotels. You'll find the full schedule here.
