Considered the ultimate track of the world, Nubrugring tests all aspects of a driver's capability. Long straights leading into a randomized set of curves for a total of 30 miles will put your driving skills to the test. They say it takes 100 laps to learn all the curves.
Located in Nurburg, Germany it was built back in the 1920's around the existing village medieval castle of Nurburg in the Eifel. This track is nick named by the Scottish racer Jackie Stewart, "The Green Hell". An ultimate test of vehicle and driver performance, longevity, and strength. Before you watch the videos, you should learn about the history behind this great track.
Back in the 1920's the "Nurburgring" was only a mountain road that was raced by ADAC Eifelrennen. The events were so dangerous and popular that a dedicated track was to be made.
During 1947-1970 the track was referred to as "The Green Hell" and hosted events like German Grand Prix and F1 events.
From 1971 until 1983 the track went under changes such as removing bumps, adding safety barriers, and minor track lay out changes.
Then in 1984 the refined track was called "GP-Streke" and had a grand opening event hosting Mercedes-Benz 190E racing.
Today the Nurburgring is home to the most elite races on the face of the planet. The world's top auto manufacturers use this track to help develop modern sports cars. The best time of the year at Nurburgring is during 24 hours Nurburgring weekend. This race consists of over 220 cars ranging from 100 hp all the way up to 800 hp. This involves almost 700 drivers, and usually draws a crowd of around 290,000 spectators.
Many drivers aspire and dream to drive on the Nurburgring at least once in their life. This track is so popular that recent video games like Forza 2 for the Xbox 360 also feature a replica to race on. Public access is still available and is called "Touristenfahrten" which the track becomes a one way toll road around the mountain. The road is open to cars, motorcycles, RV's, and more during the weekend. Sometimes during the winter months the road is closed down for safety reason. A single pass through "Touristenfahrten Nurburgring" costs around 23 euro.
