A nun birth happened in Italy this week, much to the shock of fellow nuns. A Salvadorean nun was at her convent when she began experiencing stomach cramps. She was rushed to the hospital and soon delivered a baby boy she named Franceso (Francis).

Reuters reports via Yahoo! News that the nun, 31, had no idea she was pregnant.

"I did not know I was pregnant. I only felt a stomach pain," the nun reportedly said at the hospital.

Other new mothers at Rieti hospital are collecting clothes and donations for the nun who is now the mother to a nine-pound bab.

The nun birth occurred on Wednesday.

The Salvadorean nun's convent is "Little Disciples of Jesus" in Campomoro near Rieti, a convent that "manages an old people's home." She will reportedly keep the child.

Other nuns at the convent who serve with the nun mother were said to be "very surprised."

Religious members of the Church who devote their lives solely to God, like nuns, do not engage in sexual activity. This nun birth is a shock to just about everyone and undoubtedly has embarrassed some who live in this type of community.
