Minnesota and North Dakota enter this weekend on the doorstep of closure. 2013 will be the last time the Gophers and UND play for a while, seeing as Minnesota moves to the Big Ten later this fall. Let’s take you inside the numbers for a final time, of sorts.
14: In two hundred and eighty-eight games overall played by the two schools, only fourteen have ended in ties. The last ten games have all produced a winner, with Minnesota winning six times.
2: The last time that the series was held in Minneapolis (note: not counting St. Paul games intentionally), the Gophers swept North Dakota on November 4th and 5th, 2011. What were the scores? They were 2-0 and 3-2 respectively.
124: Minnesota’s junior class leads the way for the Gophers in the most points by class category. The nine juniors have accounted for forty-four goals and eighty assists.
40: Minnesota has forty more successful penalty kills than the Gophers have successful power play tallies. Minnesota’s 67-74 PK output puts them at a .906, which is tied for 6th in the nation with Union.
9: In nine games (of thirteen played) where Sam Warning has scored, Minnesota has an 8-1-0 record.
1.65: Adam Wilcox’s 1.65 goals against average is a giant number; in fact, so giant that it ranks him fifth in the nation and the best in the WCHA.
139: North Dakota’s Danny Kristo leads active career scoring leaders in NCAA Division I with his one hundred and thirty-nine points. He also has eleven career points versus Minnesota.
7: Seven is also a very lucky number for Kristo, who has a goal in each of his last seven games played. The seven game streak is the longest of his career.
