Nude dudes on exhibit at Leopold Museum

Austrians really know their art! While the world has been going on and on, ad nauseum about the female form, the male form has been largely ignored by art lovers. That oversight is being corrected at the Leopold Museum located at Museumsplatz 1, A 1070, Vienna, Austria.

The exhibit, Nude Men from 1800 to present day will be on display (oh my!) until March 4th, 2013. With loans from all over Europe, the exhibit will begin with the the enlightenment period of the 1800s, focusing on what is called salon art, and also art from early 1900 to 1945. Further, it will feature work from ancient Egypt, Grecian and Renaissance art. The various nude male depictions span two centuries. All I can say is "it's raining men!"

As if viewing nude men isn't enough of a treat, the museum, at the request of a German group, will allow a special "after hours" enjoyment of the artwork by patrons who may also opt to be naked. This unconventional approach to art appreciation is primarily for nudists, but clothed persons are welcome as long as they don't ogle -- the art or the patrons. The entire idea of a nude art tour was prompted by an incident where a visitor decided to strip down to his skin while inside the museum. Wow! In America, streaking/public nakedness (or accidentally exposing a nipple) will earn you a jail term. In Austria, it inspires more nudity!

Nude Men is very popular, attracting over 65,000 visitors in its first two months. To experience this one of a kind exhibit, get to Vienna, Austria before March 4th.

I bet cold weather days are interesting!
