Nude beach shut down: Wisconsin beach open only on weekends now

Wisconsin authorities announced on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, that they will shut down on of the most popular nude beaches in the nation. Well, they'll be shutting it down on weekdays after years of failing to curtail sex and drugs on the sandbar and surrounding woods. The beach will still be open and operational on weekends.

The public beach on the Wisconsin River has been attracting nudists from around the country for years. It is located near Mazomanie which is about 25 miles northwest of Madison, WI. When word spread that prosecutors in Dane County wouldn't go after anyone showing skin, the attendance at the beach grew.

Unfortunately, the beach has drawn more than just those looking to strip down. Sexual activities and drugs have taken over and police just can't seem to stop it. Well, that is until now.

Authorities hit a breaking point on Tuesday and simply had the state Department of Natural Resources announce the beach will be closed off to the public on weekdays. This includes the islands immediately off of the beach and the surrounding woods.

Closures will begin immediately, but the area will be open on weekends.

These closures have drawn the ire of the public and some politicians, but police have just gotten to the point where they have no other choice. Even with numerous citations being issued time and time again, things didn't get better so drastic measures needed to be taken.
