Nude beach shut down: Rise of drugs, sex on beach lead officials to limit hours

Talk of a nude beach shutdown is topping news headlines this Wednesday morning, as the CS Monitor reported this March 20 that Wis. officials announced yesterday that they will be shutting down one of the most popular U.S. nude beaches on all weekdays after an inability to limit the prevalence of sex and drugs taking place in the area.

Under the headline, “Nude beach shut down on weekdays only” sources report that although some nudists may not be happy with the news, a popular nude beach in Wis. will only be open on weekends now.

Nudists from across the nation have been known to travel to this hit public beach, yet reports in recent years have shown that the nude beach shut down isn’t just from people taking off their clothes, but for stealing into the woods and sandbar locales for sexual encounters and drug affairs. In a six-day surveillance period alone, over 16 sex citations were issued by local wardens, while an additional three were charged with drug use.

Authorities have said enough is enough and now implemented a nude beach shut down of sorts, as they have been ultimately unable to curb the continuing of sex and drugs in the free-spirited open area. This Tuesday, the Department of Natural Resources confirmed they will be closing the beach and surrounding woods on all weekdays, though the beach will remain open on weekends for nudists, concluded the report.
