A nude beach has been shut down by authorities in Wisconsin. On March 20, NBC News reported that police have decided to close one of the nation's most popular nude beaches just on the weekdays. They hope that by doing this, they can make the beach and the area surrounding it more safe. The area has reportedly become a place for "trysts and drugs" with people running off in to the nearby woods and participating in illegal things.
"With all the skin has come sex and drugs. Warden arrest reports tell graphic stories of oral sex and mutual masturbation," NBC News reports. After doing some research, authorities concluded that the beach would be closed on weekdays because that's when a good amount of these crimes have been committed over the past few years.
The nude beach shut down is quite popular and has had an estimated 70,000 visitors over the summer period. The beach, however, has been a stomping ground for crime. There have been several citations handed out over the years and with a recent increase in this kind of behavior, shutting the beach down 5 days a week was something that was necessary according to the police.
"Honestly, we're on their side when it comes to enforcing things that are lewd and lascivious. There's something to be said about consulting the users of the place. There's got to be more to this somewhere," said Bob Morton, executive director of the Austin, Texas-based Naturist Action Committee (via NBC News).
The nude beach shut down will hopefully become a safer place with these new measures.
