Meanwhile PeakWaggers, home of the amazing dehydrated meals for your dog, has a fun Facebook page and new blog with plenty of opportunities for you to contribute with photos and contests. I admit it, *I* share these meals with my dogs. They are wonderful, healthy, gourmet meals. I am seriously considering purchasing some to send off with both my kids when they head back to college this fall. If your dog likes outdoor adventures and/or good food, you should check these out!
Last but not least, I have an update on the Chologel Oral. I was giving the sample to my daughter's 13 1/2 year old Corgi, Flash. Flash has some arthritis in her front legs and sadly has degenerative myelopathy (DM). DM is a progressive degeneration of the nerves in the spinal cord - working from rear to front. The good thing is that the pain nerves go as well as the muscle and movement coordination. The choline in the Chologel Oral should act as a nerve stimulant - helping with older dog cognitive problems. I thought it might help the DM - not cure it but perhaps slow its progress.
I started Flash on the recommended dose but noted warnings that it may need to be cutback. I noticed she would be lying, fully awake, and moving her legs like dogs do in a dream - presumably chasing squirrels! She would whine or cry so I cut back to once a day and just one drop instead of two drops twice daily. That stopped those episodes.
This is totally anecdotal - no science, no controls, so be skeptical. I do feel she is more active, moving around more and more alert. My daughter came home for a couple of days and she noticed it too. We have two steps off the back deck into the fenced yard. Lately Flash has needed a bit of help making it up. Now, she gets herself up eight or nine out of ten times. Again, no cure but I do feel it is helping. This supplement has to be ordered via your veterinarian but there are a number of distributors.
