The National Shooting Sports Foundation “Big City Tour” of its First Shots® program is going on Nov. 1-3 in the Atlanta Metro area. First Shots is a program to give prospective shooters an opportunity to try out pistol shooting in a controlled setting for FREE. There have already been 680 people who signed up to participate.
Firearms and ammunition are provided. Each First Shots event is approximately three hours long, divided between classroom and range time. Participants learn about firearms safety, the different types of handguns, correct shooting technique, and then fire 20 rounds through .22 caliber handguns. Each First Shots seminar is taught by certified instructors. No knowledge of pistol shooting is required to participate; the program is geared toward those who have never fired a pistol before.
First time shooters on initial day of the tour reported having a very positive experience. In addition to the training and shooting, they received various materials explaining further opportunities for participating in local shooting and training events.
First Shots events are being held at 11 Atlanta area shooting facilities. Although some facilities have filled to capacity, there are still a few spaces available at others. Online registration is closed but anyone interested can call to see if space is available at a facility near them. A list of hosting ranges is available on the First Shots website.
