NSCD hosts First Paralympic Experience for Veterans tomorrow

The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) will host more than 60 Colorado veteran atheletes in the NSCD Paralympic Experience for Veterans tomorrow from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Snow Mountain Ranch near Granby, Colo.

The special event will include five sports: cross-country skiing, Nordic biathalon, curling, sled hockey and snowshoeing (not a Paralympic sport). NSCD expects 40 participants from the Denver VA and 20 from the Colorado Springs Wounded Warrior Project.

The NSCD says it developed this event because they wanted to engage veterans to continue sports and recreation as part of their lifestyle, not just rehab and recovery.

“We want to provide opportunities for veterans to try Paralympic sports,” said Becky Zimmermann, president and CEO of NSCD. “We have several successful veterans in our competition program from alpine and snowboard to cross-country and Nordic biathlon.”

Snow Mountain Ranch is located at 1101 County Road 53 off of Highway 40 between Tabernash and Granby.
