Most of us understand that anything posted on the Internet is information that will be available on the web forever. Nothing on the web should ever be considered private. And to drive that point home, the New York Times reported on Sept. 29 that the National Security Agency (NSA) has been digging through “Facebook and other social media profiles to create maps of social connections - including those of American citizens.”
The data mining and gathering of our personal information by the NSA in social media venues like Facebook, is in addition to the recent revelations that the NSA had already been collecting our phone records and email logs, according to CNN.
The New York Times was able to break the news about the NSA mining Facebook thanks to documents provided to the newspaper by former government contractor, now fugitive whistleblower, Edward Snowden.
Those documents did not go into detail though about “how many Americans’ social connections have been analyzed, or whether any have been implicated in wrongdoing.”
