NPS seeks to simplify special use permit applications (Video)

The National Park Service (NPS) is trying to make it easier to get special park permits. NPS is seeking public comments on Special Park Use Applications with an eye toward revising the forms to make them easier to complete.

NPS is proposing to replace the above form with a new, streamlined Application for Special Use Permit (short form), which will require less information.

NPS gets about 10,000 applicants a year and it takes about half an hour to complete the current form, the agency estimates.

People or groups that want to conduct political demonstrations or other special activities must fill out the form to get permission. The new proposed form will make it easier for those who want smaller events such as picnics, weddings, parties, etc.

At the same time, NPS is proposing to revise the forms needed for commercial photography and special vehicle use (off-road, commercial, etc.)

NPS is taking comments until March 8. It plans to revise the forms by July.
