NPR not happy about Rex Reed calling 'Identity Thief' star a hippo

On Tuesday morning's National Public Radio broadcast writer Nico Lang brought to listener's attention a review of the film "Identity Thief" by famous reviewer Rex Reed in which he called star Melissa McCarthy a "hippo".

Lang told host Tony Sarabia that "...McCarthy paid her dues, working her way up through The Groundlings and character acting in everything from Gilmore Girls to Samantha Who and The Back-Up Plan." He also took Reed to task on his blog earlier in the week

Rex Reed has defended himself in the Hollywood Reporter saying,"I have had many friends that have died of obesity-related illnesses, heart problems and diabetes. … I have helped people try to lose weight, and I don't find this to be the subject of a lot of humor."
