About a year ago I introduced you to Lauren Elisabeth Smith, proud owner of the small business located in Alexandria called Do More with LES, the latest and greatest in personal assistants!
Today I am writing to announce that Do More with LES is now open for full-time work starting May 1st.
Here’s a little Q & A with Lauren:
What is the craziest job you’ve been asked to do in your first year?
Early on a woman asked if she could fly me to Seattle so I could drive her son’s car to their home in South Carolina. Unfortunately that job didn’t come to fruition, but I would have loved to!
The craziest thing I can say I HAVE done is be responsible for feeding live worms to a lizard for a week while the family was away on spring break.
What is the furthest you have traveled for work?
Believe it or not I’ve only had to travel to BWI Airport once, tho it was in the throes of week day rush hour.
What is the most fun you have had thus far in this career?
There are a lot of fun aspects of this job. I don’t have a dress code, so can remain comfortable no matter what. I can set my own hours. I can work pretty much where ever I want, a Starbucks, the local Panera, home, at a park on a gorgeous day, your home or mine…even on an Amtrak train!
Is there any work you have decided to turn down or stop doing?
I am not in a position as a small woman-owned start-up to turn down any work at this point. There is nothing I’ve done thus far that I would like to cease doing, so life is good, I know I made the right decision doing what I do.
I started the business in January 2009 after being let go from a very fun job. In that job I did a lot of things for a lot of great people and figured I could make a living by continuing to do so. Using my initials of LES, I decided Do More with LES was the best way to describe what you can do with me….more!
Some of the tasks Do More with LES does include:
“Can you help me find a place to store my antique fur coat?”
“I’m going to Boston for the weekend, can you take care of my flights and find me a hotel and ground transportation”
Currently, I am helping a local author get his book published, that learning process is fun!
Quickbooks set up and weekly maintenance for a client’s personal bills and small business.
Every Wednesday for a while I picked up a little boy from preschool in Bethesda and drove him home. Once the child returned home safely, his mother would send me out to do the weekly shopping for the family at the local grocery store. A task I hate doing for myself, I love grocery shopping for others!
One client has me open and sort all of her mail and bills and split them between personal expenses and her tenant’s expenses.
Some clients contacted me on Facebook while away on Spring Break this year and asked if I could set up an Easter egg hunt in their back yard for the kids to do when they returned home. This included everything from buying the plastic eggs and tons of candy, filling the eggs and then hiding them in their backyard. 100 plastic Easter eggs and 8 bags of candy later, they were excited to come home to my job well done! I guess having been born on Easter Sunday made this job the most fun thus far! (And yes, I got paid to have that much fun!)
There is not one task in particular that has been a challenge, but rather scheduling and cancellations are definitely the most challenging parts of this job. Frequently I feel I have all of the time in the world to fill up with clients and other days I fear there are not enough hours in the day! I wouldn’t trade this job for anything tho!
(OK Maybe being medically and personally responsible for a client while she had outpatient surgery was a challenge, but I returned her home safely and the procedure & results were fine!)
