Now we know what Johnny Depp will look like in 'Rango', and it's even weirder than we expected

Busey?

Well, the poster for Gore Verbinski's animated comedy Rango has arrived online, giving us our first look at Johnny Depp's titular character.  The film's already building buzz as one of the strangest major studio offerings of the next year or so, and this poster will only help that buzz continue:  Rango looks kind of like the result of a hellish experiment involving the DNA of Hunter S. Thompson, Gary Busey, and the Geico gecko.  In case you missed it, here's the bizarre "announcement piece" that Paramount released last month to promote the film:

Am I the only one that's imagining a kids' movie directed by David Lynch (which is silly, really, because we all know Blue Velvet's one of the greatest movies-for-children of all time).  At this point, you're probably wondering what the hell Rango is about.  Here's some talk about the film's plot from Entertainment Weekly:

So far, it is only known that the story focuses on the chameleon having an identity crisis which goes on an adventure to discover its true self. Beside Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin and Bill Nighy are also among the cast ensemble for the animation.

In other words, no one's really sure what to expect when Rango hits theaters next March.  But based on some of the other projects that Gore Verbinski's been behind-- Mousehunt comes to mind-- I'm expecting something delightfully strange.  That cast ain't too shabby, either.  What do you guys think?  Excited about Rango, or are you put off by the weirdness of it all?  Sound off in the comments section below, folks: we wanna know what you think about this one!  You can head on over to the Rango site to see more weirdness, such as the screencap below:
