A couple of years back I wrote an article on The Struggle for Egypt; and how due to the ouster of former President Mubarak, there is constant unrest in that country. Many people may have heard that Egypt just got rid of their new president a few months back as well. Here we go again. You would think that there would be enough turmoil in The Middle East between Egypt's current problems, Israel vs. Palestine and Palestine vs. Israel; and then some people in Yemen marrying off eight-year old girls to their death. No, we now have to have Syria's President Assad using biological and chemical weapons against his own people. Maybe The United Nations, The United States, and Russia will be successful in convincing Assad to give up the weapons. However, the damage is still done. At least hundreds of people have died or will be sick for the rest of their lives because of these weapons.
Then again, it is not just in The Middle East that we have these problems. Even though things are considered safer in The United States, Europe, Australia, parts of Asia, etc; there is still crap going on there too. People are getting killed, raped, beaten up, maimed, ripped off, and a whole bunch of other things too. What really makes me angry, besides people getting hurt throughout the world, is that some people honestly believe that it could never happen in their city, town, village, etc. They have this elitist attitude that "only those people" have "those problems".
Now, I am not saying the we can and should control everyone and everything! Not at all! There are crazies who think that; and that is just wrong! We also should not have a complacent attitude and think "Oh, well" when something bad happens to someone else! That is crazy too! We will have even more problems if we do either one of these things.
How about a happy medium, people? That means you take an interest in what is going on with your family, friends, neighbors, government, education, etc; but you do not become a control freak either. You give people their space, privacy, etc; but if something just does not seem right, then you say something. I know, easier said than done. My grandfather always said that "No one ever said it was going to be easy." I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican by the way. I think both parties are acting ridiculous these days. I think we need more Independent people throughout our world to stand up and put some common sense back into the world. Okay, I will get off of my soapbox now. Something to think about though.
