So your supervisor has given you the boot. Many thoughts may be going through your mind concerning why you were terminated. However, you may secretly know the real reason you were let go. All the mornings you spent wishing you could quit your job or your slacking off on performing your job duties could have played a part. Then again maybe you made a mistake. Depending on how much you liked or needed your job you could be feeling several emotions from relief to rage. The bad news is that none of these thoughts or feelings may help you get your job back; however there is some good news. Just because you have been fired from your position doesn’t mean you are doomed to a life of crime or will have to spend the rest of your like a vagabond. You can once again thrive in the work place. The following tips will help.
Go out with a bang
You should tell everyone you know that you are unemployed and searching for a new job. They may know someone that is hiring or the company that they work for could be looking for a new employee. Follow up on every opportunity that you feel may be good for your employment experience. Also, you should be busy scheduling interviews, sending cover letters and resumes through facsimile and mail to potential employers, attending job fairs and possibly tradeshows and or workshops.
Get passionate about your new job
Use your time and energy to make sure that the same thing that happened to you on your last job doesn’t happen again. Perhaps while you were employed at your last company, you discovered that you disliked certain aspects of your job. However, you really enjoyed others aspects of it. Do some research and find out which occupations would allow you to perform the tasks that you enjoy and are more suitable to your personality.
Give yourself a mental boost
The longer it takes for a potential employer to contact you to set up an interview or make you a job offer, the worse you may feel about your job prospects. However, unless you haven’t been at least treating your job search as if it is a part-time job, you shouldn’t worry too much. Continue to remind yourself that you are a worthy job candidate and something will come through soon. Every once in a while treat yourself to a movie or buy yourself your favorite treat.
Okay your job search seems to be taking longer than usual. This doesn’t mean you should give up. Fuel back up and start back up full speed ahead. Make you possess the necessary skills and qualifications for the jobs for which you are applying and that you are able to portray this when interviewing by telephone or in person. Practice mock interviews with your friends and family members. Dress appropriately when you are out looking for a job. If you don’t have the job skills maybe you could volunteer for someone or go back to school. Have someone perform a background and credit check.
