Retail stores all over the country have been reporting losses for this last fourth quarter which ended February 1. Williams Sonoma Inc was one of the many companies that reported a decline in net income; they reported 90 percent decrease. Right now consumers are seeking value and so retailers all over have been forced into lowering prices and driving monthly promotions.
West Elm which is one of the trendier and lower-priced brands of Williams-Sonoma Inc, still reported a loss in net income but not nearly as much as the other Williams-Sonoma brands such as Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma Home. This is due to the fact that West Elm’s prices are significantly lower than those of the other brands.
The retailer says they will close three stores and implement a bridal registry to help increase their overall performance. Personally, I feel if they want to see an increase in income they should be reducing some of their prices because even the high-end shoppers are feeling the effects of the economy.
This reduction in prices does, however give consumers an advantage when it comes to shopping. If you have any extra money I encourage you to shop around, you will definitely see a lot of great deals around Las Vegas and the rest of the country. By doing this it will help to stimulate our economy and the home furnishing industry.
