Now a Kickstarter proposal to build a private Death Star

Having failed to secure the support of the American government to build a “Star Wars” style Death Star, enthusiasts for moon-sized planet killing terror weapons have proven undaunted. A Kickstarter proposal was offered on Feb 4, 2013 to build the Death Star privately, with an initial goal of 20 million English pounds to create detailed plans, plus chicken wire to shield the exhaust ports from rebel fighters using force guided missiles.

Eventually the proponents of the private Death Star would like to raise the entire $850,000,000,000,000,000 to commence construction. Clearly the people behind this have not consulted with space blogger and self described “recovering aerospace engineer” Rand Simberg who believes that an actual working Death Star could be built for far less money.

Mind, while the proponents readily admit that they are joking, one wonders what a private group would use a Death Star for, aside from holding up the Earth for ransom.

Originally a petition was erected on the White House ‘We the People’ site to plea with the United States government to build a Death Star, partly for national defense, but mainly as a jobs stimulus program. The idea was rejected in the same tongue in cheek spirit with which it was offered.
