John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, and Kevin Butler are no strangers to a golf course or sports competition, but they are a bit new at playing in a real live PGA Tour Champions Tour event.

No problem for the recent Hall of Fame inductee in Glavine, the future Hall of Famer in Smoltz and a Super Bowl champ in Butler.

With Novelis as a sponsor this year, we now have these three playing in the Novelis Celebrity Challenge. Taking place during the actual tournament round on Saturday, April 19th during the Greater Gwinnett Championship, this will be a "competitive" round within the actual tournament round- all for charity.

“We are pleased to partner with the Greater Gwinnett Championship to present the Novelis Celebrity Challenge,” said Phil Martens, President and Chief Executive Officer, Novelis. “Most importantly, we are happy to support the important work of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, right here in our hometown.”

Think of this as kind of a "skins game" and a friendly competition between three world class athletes.

One the first tee, the three looked confident and ready. Smoltz, a serious golfer was indeed taking this seriously. While he chatted briefly with fans and posed for pictures, he was the more intense of the three studying the fairway and the hole that he was about to attack during the spare moments.

Glavine and Butler both were having fun with this endeavor, They were laughing exchanging high fives and handshakes with the fans and dignitaries and had huge smiles on their faces.

They all knew how to put nerves aside and each boomed a big drive off the tee. Smoltz may have hit one of the biggest tee shots of the day.

The players got around the course pretty well, each having some highlights along the way, but in the end it was Team Butler coming out on top.

But who was the big winner?

Charity.

A donation to the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, one of the leading pediatric cancer facilities in the country, will be made on behalf of the celebrities. Each will be playing for a specific area of need including clinical research, sickle cell and Family support. Fans can show their support of the favorite player by making a donation to their team by visiting GreaterGwinnettChampionship.com/CelebrityChallenge.

“The addition of the Novelis Celebrity Challenge helps to solidify the Greater Gwinnett Championship as a premier event in the metro Atlanta area,” states Stan Hall, Executive Director of the tournament. “There is something for everyone at our event from the hardcore golf fan to the person who wants to enjoy a great day outside with friends enjoying the beautiful surroundings at TPC Sugarloaf."

The Greater Gwinnett Championship has done a lot of good things this week; bringing out these celebs to play an exhibition round for charity was really the icing on the cake.

Give the tournament organizers and Nevelis a lot of credit.
