Novel by Omahan Brock Car, "Dead Behind the Eyes," in stores today

Brock Car, who is from Omaha and studied journalism at the University of Kansas before working in corporate communications, has written a novel, "Dead Behind the Eyes," and is signing copies at the Bookworm this evening.

Newly promoted CEO Max Riley is found dead as he arrives in Omaha on a flight from Denver. The book is "as much a whydunit as a whodunit."

In a blog entry posted by Car just four days ago, she writes about reading including the latest by Alex Kava, who was scheduled to interview Car at the 6:30 p.m event at the Bookworm.

Kava, also from Omaha, like Car, began her novel-publishing career after other work. Kava is now a New York Times best-selling author of 17 psychological suspense novels, whose Maggie O'Dell series is widely praised by critics according to Kava's website.

The Bookworm bookstore is at 8702 Pacific Street at the southeast corner of the Countryside Village shopping center.

In a second blog entry, Car indicates she considered writing "Dead Behind the Eyes" as a screenplay and discusses a pivotal character, Leah.

Brock's 298-page paperback is published by Prairie Wind Publishing, and is "in stores" today. (A Barnes and Noble web page states the book was available in December 2013. Many reviews are posted at Amazon.)

Brock grew up in Omaha and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Journalism according to her website.
