As we have discussed, the Sanskrit word Chakra literally means wheel or circle. The seven Major Chakras are located along the Sushumna Nadi which flows through the centre of the spinal cord, beginning at the perineum and terminating at the top of the head. When one Chakra center is out of sync it can also affect its neighboring chakra. When a chakra center is out of balance it generally means that it is over-active or under-active, or possibly congested or blocked, which can be felt on not just a physical, but also emotional, mental, or spiritual level. Before we get to the body of Nova Thought iself, i would be good to understand a little more about the theoretical functions associated with the Chakras. Keep in mind, the scope of this article is limited in length, thus more superficial than I would prefer. The following information is no substitute for medical care or advice! If you need medical care, see a Doctor!
The Muladhara, from its locus at the tailbone, is said to relate to the spine, legs, feet, bones, teeth, large intestines, prostate, bladder, blood, and circulation. Malfunction of this Chakra has been linked to anemia, leukemia, fatigue, obesity, constipation, colds, bladder infection, and sciatica.
The Svaddhistana connects to the gonads, womb, adrenal glands, kidneys, urinary tract, skin, spleen, and gallbladder. Malfunction here is linkedto impotence, frigidity, ovarian cysts, eating disorders, drug abuse, alcoholism, and depression.
The Manipura is relevant to the pancreas, digestion, liver, stomach, diaphragm, nervous system disorders, ulcers, diabetes, hepatitis, hypoglycemia, constipation, nervousness, stimulant abuse, parasites, toxicity, jaundice, and amnesia.
The Anahata is associated with the thymus, lungs, heart, bronchi, thymus gland, arms, hands, and muscles. Dysfunction of this Chakra is said to lead to: hypertension, lethargy, asthma, immune system disorders, pneumonia, emphysema, and cardiopathy.
The Vishuddhi commands the thyroid/parathyroid, throat, vocal system, mouth, jaw, tongue, neck, shoulders, lymph/sweat glands, and the atlas. It also is said to help regulate the menstrual cycle. When blocked, there can be fevers, blisters, infections, tonsillitis, toothaches, obsessive-compulsive disorder, speech disorders and swelling.
The Ajna governs the pituitary, eyes, nose, ears, sinuses, cerebellum, pineal, forebrain, and the autonomic nervous system. Diseases related to the Ajna Chakra blockage are: blindness, vision, headaches, migraines, earaches, and sleep disorders.
The Sahasrara, at the crown of the head, logically is seen to function relative to the pineal gland, and also the upper brain, cerebral cortex, cerebrum, pituitary, central nervous system, and hair growth. When this Chakra is not open, it is said to lead to: mental illness, neuralgia, confusion, senility, bacteria, warts, skin rashes, and eczema.
This is another reason to open the Chakras; if the Chakras are open, the corresponding glands function more correctly, and the body heals more quickly and functions much more efficiently. There is also a way of using them to heal your life!
