We now continue our overview of the Chakra, which began here. We have discussed how the Chakras are Energy Centers found in the Human Body. There are seven Major Chakras, the lower four of which are found along the spinal cord, from the base of the spine to the middle of the chest. The fifth is in the throat. We are now dealing with the first of the two Major chakras found in the head the Ajna (“command”) Chakra. It is located behind the point in the center of the forehead, between the eyebrows. This locus is often referred to in Western New Age writings as the “Third Eye”.
The assigned rainbow color is Indigo; the lotus flower image is white, with only two petals; when the Ajna Chakra is developed and open, one is able to see right through dualities. The Sacred Number for Ajna is 7, which is closely related to the Cycles of the Moon. The Tattva or Element is Manas (“mind”), the often ignored “sixth element” in Tantra and Yoga. Manas is the rational faculty, which elevates humans and distinguishes them from lower creatures. The Mantra is “hum” (pronounced “hoom”).
When operating on the level of the Ajna Chakra, the highest level of morality is required in one’s actions. The Chakra has control over seeing, physically, mystically and intuitively, including the Psychic Senses and all forms of paranormal activity. When active, it is also the Seat of Divine Intelligence. The Ajna Chakra thus controls all higher mental activities, including rational thought and memory. The Inner Seer is here to guide us through the Higher Planes.
One cannot help but notice the similarity to “Mana”, which in Maori, Hawaiian and other Polynesian Languages refers to a magical Force or Power. Perhaps there is at least a symbolic relationship to Manna, the miraculous food provided to the ancient Israelites in the Book of Exodus. In Nova Thought, the Ajna Chakra relates to the Shadow Principle.
