We have touched on the four lowest Chakras, from the Root to the chest. We have arrived at the neck. This is the location of the Vishuddhi, or Throat Chakra, Chakra number five, the Throat Chakra, corresponding to the Element known as “Akasha”. Please note that the throat is the connecting point between the head and the body. Our European Medieval alchemists called this Element “Ether” or “Quintessence”. The Mantra is Ham (pronounced “hahm”). The Yantra is a grey elliptical or ovoid shape.
You may easily locate your Vishuddhi Chakra by finding your vocal chords. The Vishuddhi is below them, around the level of the suprasternal notch. The Mantra you will be intoning is Ham (“hahm”), and the rainbow color is blue. The Sacred Number is 5.
“Vishuddhi” means “purification”, which is quite appropriate to its location, as the throat is not only the entrance point for food and drink into the body, it is also where speech is formed (which exits the body), and very important to self-healing. Vishuddhi is the bridge to higher spiritual realms and greater creativity. An open, healthy Vishuddhi Chakra leads to honesty, integrity, and eloquence. It can be blocked by jealousy or envy. The sixteen-petalled Vishuddhi Lotus blossoms when you express your own unique creativity. Thus, the message from the Throat Chakra could be said to be “know yourself”. The Inner Sage is waiting here to lead us to Self-Knowledge.
The Etheric Vishuddhi Chakra represents the Level at which we realize that Self Knowledge leads to Oneness with the Divine. It must be added that, when one is activating the Throat Chakra, it is time to watch both one’s speech more carefully, and observe better eating habits. Impurities of any kind passing in or out of the throat may impede or delay the opening of the Vishuddhi. The Vishuddhi Chakra, in Nova Thought, is connected to the Essence Principal.
