On Saturday, December 28, 2013, the fourth annual Pinstripe Bowl was held at Yankee Stadium. The game showcased football teams from Rutgers University and Notre Dame University. The game pairs the fourth place team from The American League against the seventh place team from the Big 12 Conference; however if the Big 12 Conference does not have an eligible team, Notre Dame will receive their invitation.
This year Notre Dame was victorious against Rutgers with a score of 29 to 16, taking home the coveted George M. Steinbrenner III Championship Trophy. Zack Martin of Notre Dame was named this year's Most Valuable player.
The Pinstripe Bowl is the first and currently the only bowl held in the New York City area since the Garden State Bowl in 1981. The Pinstripe Bowl has been successful in not only making use of Yankee Stadium during the Yankees' off season, but in bringing visitors and college football fans to the area.
