The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and their fans are breathing a little easier tonight. The Fighting Irish got their first win of the season today by knocking off the Michigan State Spartans in South Bend 31-13.
The MSU Spartans came into this game ranked #15 in the Top 25 coaches poll, but it was actually the Fighting Irish that were favored in the game.
The Irish stopped turning the ball over in the second half and actually looked like the team that got all the preseason hype. Notre Dame faithful can hang their hat on this game as a turning point in the 2011 NCAA football season.
The bright spot for the Michigan State Spartans on offense was the WR, BJ Cunningham, who had a great day. The All-American wideout had 12 catches for 158 yards.
"I think it shows when you play tough teams, you get better." Anthony S. of Warren, MI. said. "MSU played bad teams and went 2-0, the Irish played two good teams and were 0-2."
The MSU Spartans may fall out of the 'Top 20,' but should still be ranked in the 'Top 25' next week. Next weekend the Spartans return home to face Central Michigan.
