Notre Dame Prep, 3 other private schools named to Sun's list of Top Workplaces

Do happy teachers make happy students or is it the other way around? No matter. Today everyone is happy at Notre Dame Preparatory School, Loyola Blakefield, The Catholic High School of Baltimore and Archbishop Spalding Schools -- the only four private schools named to the Baltimore Sun's 2011 list of Baltimore's Top Workplaces announced on Sunday.

"This honor is most special because it came about from our teachers and staff," says Sister Patricia McCarron, SSND, Ph.D., headmistress of Notre Dame Preparatory School.  "Notre Dame is a special community, and its people—the faculty, staff, our students and their families—are the reason.  They are why NDP is, in my opinion, the BEST place to be!"

The evaluation for the Top Workplaces program is based upon feedback from an anonymous employee survey that the faculty and staff filled out back in August.

"Establishing and maintaining a fully functioning, engaged workforce is about more than just money and benefits. Those things matter of course, but heightened employee morale can also result from things like flexible work hours, or even intangible factors like a workplace's physical layout," said Sun Business editor Dave Rosenthal.

The four private schools fell in the "Small Employers" category, which included 45 of the top 75 companies. Here's how employees responded to questions posed by the Sun and partner WorkplaceDynamics about the schools where they work:
