Each academic year, the University of Notre Dame puts on a Forum, which is made up of a number of events designed to spotlight a certain cause or topic. Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. created the Notre Dame Forum in 2005. The talks have examined difficult issues such as immigration, sustainability, global health, the global marketplace, K-12 education and even the role of faith in a pluralistic society.
The 2013-2014 Notre Dame Forum will focus on Women in Leadership. The events will look at the roles and realities of women who are leaders in their fields. Extraordinary contributions and achievements will also be highlighted. The Forum offers the Notre Dame community the chance to learn about a variety of fields from the women who are at the top of them.
Father Jenkins hopes that the Forum will jumpstart campus dialogue about the barriers and benefits to women’s advancement in this nation. The first event of the Forum, entitled, “Getting to the Top at the Pentagon,” features two leaders in the U.S. Department of Defense. The Honorable Michèle Flournoy, the highest-ranking civilian woman in Pentagon history, and General Ann Dunwoody, the first woman to achieve the rank of a four-star general, will share their stories in a conversation moderated by Anne Thompson of NBC news. Attendees will hear these women’s insights about the challenges facing the Pentagon and the United States today.
The first event of the Notre Dame Forum is September 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Leighton Concert Hall in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. The event is open to the public. Admission is free but the event is ticketed. All tickets may be picked up at Will Call at 6:00 p.m. the evening of the event at the DeBartolo Ticket Office.
