Notre Dame fired Head Coach Charlie Weis on Monday. In a press conference on Monday Jack Swarbrick, athletic director said: "We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations."
Charlie Weis has six years left on his ten year Notre Dame contract, and has a 35-27 record in five seasons, which is one of the worst of Notre Dame Coaches. Notre Dame is currently 6-6.
Rob Ianello, Assistant Head Coach will fill in until a new Notre Dame Coach is hired. There was some gossip of possible replacements with Florida's Urban Meyer (Utah Utes coach from 2003-2004) and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, but both have stated they are not leaving their current contracts.
Other possibilities may be Cincinnati's Brian Kelly, or Stanford's Jim Harbaugh, or TCU's Gary Patterson.
