Notre Dame junior defenseman Jared Beers has been suspended from the team indefinitely due to an off-campus incident that occurred on Sunday, Feb. 3.
According to the South Bend Tribune, the 22-year-old Beers was booked in the St. Joseph County Jail early Monday on suspicion of battery, trespass, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
According to accounts, the female manager of Brothers Bar and Grill told Beers to leave the bar after he tried to take beer from other patrons. Beers reportedly refused to leave, punched the manager in the face and then stepped on her head, face and neck when she fell to the ground and also pulled her ponytail.
During the incident, Beers left his wallet at the scene and responding officers called him to tell him they located his wallet. Once he arrived at the police station to retrieve his wallet, he was arrested.
“The university is aware of this incident and is confident that it will be handled in a prompt and professional manner through the criminal justice system,” Notre Dame spokesman Dennis Brown said in a statement.
Beers is without a point in eight games played.
