The University of Notre Dame’s Right to Life club will be putting on a number of events for Respect Life Week, October 6 to October 12. According to their website, the Notre Dame Right to Life club “seeks to promote and uphold the sanctity of life from conception until natural death through prayer, service, and education…”

Many students on campus are pro-life and are eager to share their message and joy for life with others. A variety of events have been planned to engage students in the pro-life movement. The schedule is as follows:

On Monday, October 7, members of the club are encouraged to wear their Right to Life spirit wear in order to spread the pro-life message around campus. A seminar entitled “Abortion Beyond National Borders” will be given by Professor Paolo Carozza at 7:00 p.m. Dinner will be provided, but students need to sign up online. A student’s mass for life will be held in O’Neill Hall at 10:00 p.m. An ice cream social will follow.

On Tuesday, October 8, club members will be setting up their signature pro-life display at 4:00 p.m. on South Quad near O’Shaughnessy Hall. The display consists of hundreds of white, wooden crosses that are placed in the ground to represent the lives that are lost each year to abortion. The visual display is quite striking and really sends a message to all who view it. University President Reverend John Jenkins will lead a rosary for life in the Basilica at 6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, October 9, the President of the March for Life, Jeanne Monahan, will lead a lecture entitled, “What Does it Mean to be Pro-life?” The seminar will be held in the Mendoza Auditorium.

On Thursday, October 10, there will be a blood drive from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A BloodMobile will be located on Bond Quad and students are encouraged to give a gift that could save a life. Father Jim Gallagher will hold a Candlelight Prayer Service for Healing at 11:00 p.m. on South Quad near O’Shaughnessy Hall.

On Friday, October 11, there will be a club information table for all who are interested in learning about the club’s mission from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Lafortune Student Center Elevator Lounge. From 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., the club will be hosting a LifeFest on South Quad featuring free food, fun and community as they celebrate life.

Finally, on Saturday, October 12, club members will be disassembling the pro-life display and celebrating the end of a great week at 11:00 a.m.

More information about the Right to Life club or Respect Life Week can be found on their website and Facebook page.
