When I was a kid, my friend lived next door to the Maurice Lenell cookie factory. The counter lady would give us free cookies and we would run home to change our clothes and pretend to be someone else and go back for more. I realized early on that I would do anything for sweets and bakeries were my refuge. It took some research and plenty of wiping chocolate frosting out of the corners of my mouth, but I think I have a pretty good list of local bakeries that I would definitely buy a new wardrobe for to revisit again and again.
Fairytale Brownies
Friends from kindergarten, David Kravetz and Eileen Spitalny, developed Fairytale Brownies from a secret family recipe. With flavors like Raspberry Swirl, Mint Chocolate and Toffee Crunch, it’s no wonder that these delectable brownies have been a favorite in the Valley since 1992.
Tammie Coe
Tammie Coe has made a great name for herself with unbelievably unique cakes and sweets for any occasion. You can sample her treats at local retailers including AJ’s, La Grand Orange Grocery or stop by her two locations on 40th Street and on East Roosevelt.
Sprinkles
The things that I do to actually get a free Sprinkles cupcake is actually embarrassing. I’ve changed into sports jersey’s, relayed the secret word of the day and answered trivia questions. But if you have ever tried their red velvet cupcakes, then you would understand. They even have the Sprinkles mobile that delivers to your door. Stop already!
