It’s been twenty-five years since "Die Hard" first hit the screens with Bruce Willis in his most famous role, action hero John McClane. The movie was based on the late Roderick Thorp’s novel, “Nothing Lasts Forever,” published in 1979.
Thorp's “Nothing Lasts Forever” has been out of print for years, but Greymalkin Media has returned it to the public with a reissue. The book and movie have some key differences, but both work. The detective in the book is named John Leland and his daughter, Stephanie Gennaro, works at Klaxon Oil. In the movie, the detective is named John McClane, his daughter becomes his wife, Holly Gennero, and the company she works for is Nakatomo.
Greymalkin’s website has a list of forty-two plot differences between the book and movie. For the movie fan, it’s a great way to compare the two stories.
