Notehall gets funding needed to develop their business from Shark Tank

Two former University of Arizona students own a website called Notehall that helps students share class notes.  Tonight two of the four owners of the company presented their website on the ABC show “Shark Tank” tonight.  Shark Tank has several investors who listen to proposals from companies that need money and they decide and/or negoiate who will get how much and for what in exchange.

Sean Conway, graduated in 2007 with a degree in entrepreneurship, and DJ Stephan, a former entrepreneurship student spoke about their company, Notehall, on the show.

Conway and Stephan described Notehall as “an eBay for lecture notes.” Students can buy and sell their class notes from each of their college courses where other students can pay to view them.  Their presentation was clear and clean, and they had the Shark Tank investors fighting over who would get to invest in their company, and they listened to the offers, and accepted the one that worked best for them.  They asked for $90,000 for 10% of their business.  They ended up with $90,000 for 35% of their business.

The business started at the University of Arizona and has grown to include several hundred universities around the country, including the University of Utah.
