In what was the most stunning fulfillment of prophesy in the 20th century, on May 28th, 1967, Israeli Col. Mordechai Gur led Israel’s troops to capture Jerusalem during the miraculous Six Day War. This brought the Jewish capital Jerusalem under the control of Israel for the first time since Roman Emperor Titus sacked the city in 70AD.
As scoffers sputter about the lack of authenticity to the Bible, it brought to fulfillment Jesus’ ominous declaration that “Jerusalem would be trampled upon by the Gentiles until the time of the Gentiles was fulfilled”.
There are spiritual reasons Jerusalem continues to be a thorn in the side to the forces of darkness that are hell bent in attempting to wrestle away control of Jerusalem from the Jews. The illogical hatred of refusing any capitulation to Israel’s claim on the “city of God” has reared its ugly head numerous times since Israel’s existence. The world even refuses to allow Israel the right to even name its own capital which is Jerusalem. The world insists on using Tel Aviv.
Jerusalem is the most conquered city on the face of the planet and Jerusalem has nearly always been a point of contention, not because of its strategic value, but as a spiritual issue. Anti-Semitism is once again on the rise and Jerusalem will continue to be “a hook in the nose” to the world as predicted by the prophet Isaiah.
What should be a moment of congratulations to Israel for beating overwhelming odds to not only return from oblivion as nation in 1948 for the first time in human history, but assuming control of Jerusalem in 1967 according to prophesy which was a supernatural event. God has described Jerusalem as “My fig tree” and the “apple of My eye”. It is a disturbing thing to bother Israel through Jerusalem because when one does, you are actually sticking your finger in God’s eye.
“If I forget thee, oh Jerusalem, then let My right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let My tongue cleave to the roof of My mouth, if I prefer not Jerusalem above My chief joy.” Psalms 137:5-6 clearly articulates God’s attitude concerning Jerusalem.
The prophet Joel has a dire warning to those parting the territory of Israel for whatever reason in Joel 3:2,
“I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for My people and for My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted My land.”
The consequences of dividing the land of Israel will bring nations to the “valley of decision” which is also known as “Armageddon”. The nations will come on the belief they are assembling on their own accord which could well take place over oil and natural gas deposits which are believed to dwarf the mineral deposits of Saudi Arabia according to the National Geological Survey. The world will be fighting over supremacy of the mineral wealth that will be in Israel and could be the “hook in the nose”.
There is a reason there were no greeting cards sent to Israel or Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when Israel observed Yom Yerushalayim yesterday. There are far more other countries with tainted history that the world approves, however only Israel continues to receive the severe scrutiny.
Darkness hates the light, and the Jewish people has always been the example of God demonstrating that in spite of man’s best efforts to destroy the Jewish people or undermine God’s will, God’s word will not return void, but will accomplish everything according to His good pleasure as promised by Isaiah.
God has already declared the end from the beginning.
