Not even Falcons' Abraham immune to Atlanta snowstorm as car slides off road

It’s not just us mere mortals that can get stuck in the Atlanta snow.  Even big, bad football players are having issues with the wintry mix around the metropolitan area, too.

Atlanta Falcons DE John Abraham had a hairy ride to the team’s walkthrough ahead of Atlanta’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Abraham was a passenger in a four-door sedan that skidded off I-985 into a ditch while he was reporting to work on Monday morning.  Fortunately, no one was injured.

“We literally (just) crashed (two) exits away (from Flowery Branch),” Abraham tweeted at 9:35 a.m.

“I’m the passenger so I wasn’t being unsafe trust me. I (got) kids ain’t (trying to) go no where any time soon,” he chirped10 minutes later.

Luckily for Abraham, a guy who knows quite a bit about driving in the snow was not far behind for the assist.

Fellow defensive lineman and Montana native Kroy Biermann saw his 6-foot-4, 263 pound teammate from South Carolina stranded on the side of the road, stopped and pulled Abraham’s car from the ditch.

Biermann had no problems getting to the Falcons’ camp in Flowery Branch in his bulky pickup truck.

“I love the snow!!!” Biermann later tweeted.

The monumental snowstorm, which dumped over six inches of snow and a layer of ice over many parts of Atlanta’s northern suburbs and brought most of the region to a standstill.

Abraham’s accident was one of dozens littered along the region’s interstate system, which was subject to intermittent closures throughout the day as cars and tractor trailers struggled to navigate along the snow covered, icy roads.

Nevertheless, work went on as planned for the Falcons.  All but two players made it to the brief early afternoon walkthrough.  The others were sent home shortly after the meeting instead of spending the night in the team’s dorms at the facility.

The Falcons will reassemble for their first practice of the week at the Branch on Tuesday.  But getting to there will not be easy.  The roads are expected to ice up overnight, making the commute treacherous.
