Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day we all want to make the best choices as to what to eat. Most people have busy lives and rushed morning limiting time to prepare cooked meals.
Cereal is the number one choice for morning meals since it is so easy to prepare. Breakfast doesn’t get any easier than pouring cereal from a box covered over with just the right amount of milk.
Now most people purchase cereal because of its name brand, the fact it says whole grain or oats as well as by which tastes best. But do you really check out the label on the side of the box? That label which also specifically lists the ingredients in descending order by weight.
If you purchase a box of Post Honey Bunches of Oats you may think you’re getting a great cereal. After viewing the label one can tell that really isn’t quite true. The word oats is what catches your attention for healthy fiber and nutritional value, are actually the fourth ingredient on the label listing. Before you get to the actual oats you’ll see that there is more corn, wheat and sugar in the cereal than oats.
On the other hand a box of General Mills Honey Nut Cheerios is actually the better choice. This cereal is also a nutritious whole grain cereal made of oats. And it really is since the oats are the first ingredient listed on the label. Here you benefit more from the oats that drew you to choose this brand that contains a good source of whole grains and giber based cereal.
Now you can enjoy that healthy cereal breakfast and get lots of oats just by reading the label on the box. Just because the cereal name promises you something doesn’t mean you’re choosing the best brand for your health and morning meal.
