Nostalgia, but now

Mark and Kristen Sink's recent ollodion wet plates at Robin Rice Gallery in the west village, NYC, resemble the past, but retain certain qualities of the now. These black and white blurry portraits, each unique pieces, portray characters that have a modern look and feel, but are out of place in time. Maybe it's their attitudes, haircuts, or lack of stiffness that beam them into the present. But then their dreamy clothing and surroundings fade them back to the past. All of this puts us off kilter as we are in a quandary trying to figure out, are these images old or new?

Mark and Kristen Sink, Recent Work is on view at Robin Rice Gallery until February 28.
