Last Friday I had the privilege of visiting the Norwegian Getaway during her christening ceremony. It was quite the star-studded event with a performance by godmothers, the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, followed by international superstar Armando Christian Perez aka Pitbull! Master of ceremonies was the beautiful co-host of “Dancing with the Stars” Brooke Burke-Charvet.
The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders officially flipped the switch to light up Miami and the bottle smashed against the side of the ship in an official christening manner. Shortly thereafter, the crowd was wild with excitement as Pitbull sang his current hit “Timber,” which could be seen in person for the VIP crowd and via full display on alternate feeds throughout the ship for everyone else onboard.
Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer said, “Miami’s ship is home and we couldn’t be more proud to bring this spectacular vessel to this electric city. We thank Miami-Dade County for this warm welcome and the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders for christening this beautiful ship and are looking forward to a very successful inaugural season.”
Norwegian Getaway began her weekly seven-day cruises from the Port of Miami to the Eastern Caribbean on Saturday, February 8.
Norwegian Getaway Facts…
Miami’s ultimate ship stays true to the soul of her homeport with hull artwork (iconic for Norwegian) by Miami’s own David “LEBO” Le Batard featuring a whimsical mermaid holding the sun above the waves.
The Getaway offers an industry first with the GRAMMY® Experience at Sea, which includes artifacts chosen and curated by the GRAMMY Museum® along with live performances by past GRAMMY winners and nominees, among others. Also, The Illusionarium is a brand new dining and entertainment experience that introduces guests to the world of magic and illusions.
Entertainment is over the top onboard the Getaway with productions like the musical “Legally Blonde,” comedy shows and fireworks at sea. The most unique venue onboard is the ship’s SVEDKA/Inniskillin Ice Bar…don cold weather gear for an experience to remember!
For families, Nickelodeon® offers a myriad of interactive opportunities like the all new pirate-themed Nickelodeon Kids’ Aqua Park and face-to-face character encounters with SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Dora the Explorer and Diego! The three-story Sports Complex featuring the Aqua Park with five water slides, two swimming pools and a multi-level elevated ropes course (complete with zip line) adds adventure and fun to this family vacation at sea. And, don’t miss the rock climbing wall, the bungee trampoline, and the nine-hole mini golf course located just beneath the ropes course. So much to do!
Treat your palette to culinary delights at dining rooms and upcharge venues, as well as treats from TLC’s Cake Boss Buddy Valastro at Carlo’s Bakery. There are 28 total options for dining onboard the Getaway…try them all!
Choosing the perfect accommodations…
Something that is worth the mention for solo travelers is the availability of studio staterooms perfect for the single traveler and something hard to find when cruising. For couples and families, choose from balcony or family staterooms, or go all out and stay in The Haven (luxury suites).
Cruising has definitely become a top choice for vacationers. It is a good value considering the all-inclusiveness of the trip. It also offers the opportunity to escape cold weather when cruising to the Caribbean during winter months.
