Norwegian Cruise Lines to accommodate guests for Vancouver 2010 Winter Games

Norwegian Cruise Line, Norwegian Star

Here's a solution to your accommodations' dilemma during Vancouver's 2010 Olympic Winter Games: Stay on a cruise ship! Norwegian Cruise Lines' Norwegian Star will be permanently docked in North Vancouver, 10 minutes from downtown Vancouver and directly across from Stanley Park. The ship will add more than 1,000 rooms and suites to the accommodation pool and offer guests all the amenities of a four-star cruise ship. Four unique packages, cleverly priced from $2,010 USD (about $2,530 CAD), are being offered. Newwest Travel of Edmonton, Alberta has collaborated with Norwegian Cruise Lines to offer four "waves" throughout the Winter Games, ranging from 4-6 nights. They all include:

  • All meals on board, including 24-hour complimentary room service
  • Boxed lunch program to take to events
  • Nightly entertainment including on the stage, lounge and nightclub
  • Nightly turn down service
  • Captain's cocktail reception
  • Daily activities
  • Live satellite coverage of the Games
  • Airport transfers from Vancouver International Airport
  • Daily transfers from the Norwegian Star to the Sea Bus in North Vancouver, with its access to Olympic venues
  • Vancouver city tour
  • Welcome kit
  • Newwest concierge desk

This expensive option may meet the needs of some uppity people who don't want to deal with the riff-raff on the city streets. In Athens, cruise ships were also used at the Olympic Games in '04 - to house dignitaries and athletes. Navy Seals helped the cause by patrolling the harbor underwater.
